NEW YORK — AT&T says it will make 5,000 additional job cuts within the organization, and has announced a pre-tax restructuring charge of US$1 billion against its fourth quarter 2001 results.

The company said the charge is primarily associated with the 5,100 job cuts it announced last year — primarily management positions — within its business, consumer and corporate units.

The 5,000 additional employees are expected to leave the payroll in 2002 and have been notified that their organizations will be reduced in size.
