Allied Telesis, a provider of IP/Ethernet access products deployed over copper and fiber access infrastructures, today released the Rapier 48w (AT-RP48w), a combination of a switch and router in a single device for WAN connectivity with up to 50 LAN ports.

The product was developed for service providers using legacy backhaul technology and enables the expansion of their customer base with a range of new services without the need for major infrastructure investments, the company said..

The device supplies Ethernet connectivity for up to 48 users or homes, and each stream can be bandwidth-limited in 64kbps increments.
