Allied Telesis Inc., a provider of secure IP/Ethernet switching products, today announced the launch of its AT-PC2002/POE (Power over Ethernet) offering, which it says is the market’s first Fast Gigabit Ethernet rate media converter with PoE and an internal power supply.

Initially developed for use in military networks, the AT-PC2002/POE is designed for applications where the media converter needs to supply power to devices more than 100 metres away from the main network.

The high data speeds enable the effective deployment of bandwidth intensive end points such as CCTV (closed-circuit television), surveillance IP cameras, and VoIP (voice over Internet Protocol) phones.

The converter provides up to 15.4 watts of power (full power PoE), supports both speed and high-performance media conversion and connects to both 100 and 1000Mbps SFP (small form-factor pluggable) devices via its copper port. It can be attached to a wall, desktop, or DIN rail.
