Information and communications technology company Aliant announced today it will invest $500,000 over the next four years to support wireless research and development at the University of New Brunswick (UNB).
The company said findings will provide it with insight into next generation wireless solutions for customers across Atlantic Canada.
UNB is the first university in the region to be funded via the Aliant Wireless Innovation Fund (AWIF) — a $2.5 million research and development fund established to support research and development at post-secondary institutions in the Maritimes over the next five years.
Plans call for the company to contribute $100,000 annually for three years in support of the Next Generation Wireless Telecommunications Systems project at the university.
The initiative is focusing on next generation research related to seamless global mobility for customers, devices and wireless services.
Aliant will also contribute $50,000 per year for four years to support Privacy, Security and Trust (PST) research as it relates to new wireless and digital technology.
AWIF is a collaborative effort between Aliant and Bell University Labs (BUL), a national Bell Canada-sponsored university research and development investment initiative.
