ADC Telecommunications Inc. and Novera Optics Inc., developer of optical access products, have entered into an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) agreement in which the latter will deliver a new access transport platform based on Passive Optical Network (PON) and Dense Wave Division Multiplexing (DWDM) technologies.
ADC is demonstrating the product, which is called PONy Express 16, this week at the NXTcomm 2007 conference in Chicago.
Under terms of the agreement, Novera will supply equipment to ADC for customers in North America, Europe and South America.
According to the two companies, the PONy (Passive Optical Network over wavelengths) Express 16 is the first transport platform to address the bottleneck that occurs in traditional optical access networks.
Using DWDM, the PONy Express 16 provides cost-effective access to business parks, campuses, and multi-dwelling unit/multi-tenant units over a shared network infrastructure without sacrificing security or limiting bandwidth, they said.
